What is potassium alum?
Alum is a double potassium aluminum sulfate and potassium. The potassium alum is the only true and natural alum obtained from a mineral extracted from a kalunite quarry. The ore is then purified and the natural resulting impurities are removed through multiple filtrations. Recrystallization in water gives it its final shape with a purity close to 100%. Natural alum has a mottled uneven aspect where one must be able to detect natural crystallization. This specific alum shape is used to produce Laboratoires Osma’s cosmetics.

A little history ....
The stone alum or alum crystal has been used since antiquity by the Greeks and Romans as a cosmetic product as well as in many industrial fields (water treatment, skins ...). Many medical books report the use of potassium alum stone.
The main mining areas of alum are China, South America and the Middle East. In Europe, alum was produced mainly by Italy, France and Hungary with much smaller mines.
